Weekend + Art Gallery

Looking for something to do this weekend?  Why not spend at least one of your days out exploring, a local gallery, boutique shops, a new coffee spot etc.  Winter starts to feel long in February + it is a good way to break up the everyday routine that winter imposes on us (eat, stay warm, work, stay warm, sleep, stay warm, you get the idea) Last weekend however I braved the cold + did just that...We spent a good part of the day exploring MIA (Minneapolis Institute of Art)

Alex found something he liked...

Needed a coffee break, we accidentally went to the kids coffee shop, half-pint!  Our drinks were very tiny ;)

Flat comfortable shoes are a must when exploring, also it helps to have a lightweight bag or clutch, otherwise your shoulder will be sore from lugging around that heavy bucket bag at the end of the day.

Before + After

So I should have done this a long time ago, but I have a common problem of procrastinating, often.  I finally bit the bullet + took time last weekend to go to the twin cities and pick up all the things I needed for the Re-do!  Here are the before + afters...

I love my new space!  I have more room, it is easier to find things and most importantly it makes me want to get
into the studio + make more art!

Sunday Morning + Tilia

Yesterday we were getting ready to travel home from our weekend in Minneapolis.  With the weather being as awful as it was we only wanted to stop once, for brunch, instead of breakfast and lunch.  We decided to try Tilia.  After finding it with some difficulty (they have no exterior sign, only the front door is marked and it is tucked back into the building) We sat down to the most amazing brunch spot!

They had a heated window bench!

I had a terrible time deciding between the poached eggs with caramelized tomatoes,
Reuben eggs benedict  or the biscuits + gravy with smoked eggs! 

The Lattes were delicious.

Romantic wedding + Custom Art

I have been devoting time in the studio to Custom painting commission the last few days.
The portrait is of the man who ordered the work done and his wife kissing on their wedding day :D
Created in a monotone color scheme, here is what I have gotten done so far....

I am really excited to finish this piece for my client so he can give it to his wife as a gift for their anniversary!

Studio Remodel Step One

So last week after almost tearing out my hair in frustration over my TINY space, I have decided to do a remodel of my current studio.  Alex + I have plans to build a new garage that will house a lovely studio in the upper story for me, but....it doesn't seem to be in this summers plan.  I realized I may be stuck using my current space for awhile, however as my art career grows so do the requirements of my space.  So a remodel it is!  I have about 12 square feet to work with, I plan on adding a desk, workspace, storage, organizational things and maybe a rug so it's cozy.  Here is step one of me cleaning everything out yesterday....

Monday Recovery

Watched last nights super bowl game at a friends apartment.  I was responsible for making the Appetizers and snack food.  I decided on Southwest Corn Dip, Petite Lasagna and Mini Grilled cheese!
We had a lovely time, indulged a little on the appetizers, homemade chili, wine, beer and dessert nachos to top it all off.  Needless to say, today we are starting our 7 day winter cleanse...I'm off to make porridge.

This is my recipe for mini grilled cheese, if you don't want to use a baguette and want the sandwiches to be uniform use a round cutter and cut the circles out of regular slice bread, they are cute either way.

Saturday+Decorating

Last saturday I went shopping for things I've been needing for awhile.  I am planning to re-decorate our bathroom soon so I started with the accessories first, here's what I found....

New towels, pretty paper, some fresh canvas and paints for color ideas.

I decided on these Threshold towels from Target, i love the floral pattern and light color

I really like these colors together but don't think i will use all of them in the bathroom

I also found a Soap Dispenser + Wastebasket
