First Day!

My first day working at the PRCA (Prairie Renaissance Cultural Alliance) Gallery went well.  Trained in and got to work with my first few customers this morning.  I also got to talk to a few fellow artists and got some good tips and info from them.  I knew taking another step into the art world would help me out career wise, just being more involved with the arts and other artists in the community is already starting to pay off :D  Have a great weekend everyone! 2014 Summer collection | In Progress

Hi all!  Well I just returned from a quick weekend getaway to the North shore / Lake superior.  In search of some peace of mind (Noisy riotous thoughts lately) and inspiration to continue my summer line.  The collection will include small watercolor mixed media originals, a few larger canvas paintings and I am hoping to do some small canvas 2 or 3 piece sets.  The first three pieces are available in my Etsy Shop.  The collection is heavily inspired by early 20's style, art deco and....jungle?  It's this look I've been building in my head and I can't wait to see it start coming together!  Stay Tuned for more mood boards, WIP and available products.  Major work being done on my Society6 shop, hoping to have more items available there soon.  For those of you who don't know my ETSY shop is still my number one online venue, you deal with me directly, my Society6 shop allows me to offer fun things with my art like pillows and T-shirts :D  Hopefully between the two of them you can find just the thing you are looking for!

New Summer Things

So with winter seemingly launching right into summer with no hints of spring, I have found myself very busy.  Planting the gardens, designing the new parts of the yard, work is getting busy, a new position at a new gallery and on and on.  Somehow I have actually been able to create two new mixed media watercolors over the last month.  It is not as much painting as I would like to be getting done but I am glad I still made some progress.

'Illusions'

This illustration features an Art Deco feel.
It will be available in print at the PRCA
Gallery in Morris MN next month!

What Failure Makes

Back in December of 2013 I had the honor of being nominated for Rawards Artist Of The Year.  I have been hesitating to write this post for a long time.  As rewarding and exciting as the experience was it really took a toll on my spirit towards my art.  I love making art, being around it and always being inspired by things around me, it is something I cannot simply shut off, it's a part of me.  Art is not something I can stop making if I do not become financially profitable from it.  I think this is where the pressure grew from.  I want to make art for a living, that is the future I see for myself and dream about.  I have to be the motivating force behind everything I do with my art business, no one will do it for me.  I had put so much pressure on myself to take this opportunity and do as much as I could with it, that when it didn't turn out ideally I felt like I had messed up my chance, I blew it.  My first feeling was gratitude, for the opportunity, the exposure, the credibility and finding out that I do have what it takes to make it this far.  My second feeling upon not winning the title, followed....confusion.  I felt confused and frustrated, I felt that i tried so hard, had spent so many late nights in front of the easel making
the new pieces, pushing myself so hard and during it I kept telling myself that it would be worth it, it was all for something.  While I stood there in front of the stage as they were about to announce, so many feelings coursed through my veins I can't explain it, it almost felt like flight.  Just as soon as the feeling came it went, and when my name wasn't called in
that moment I felt so defeated, so let down and so confused.  How could I have tried harder, I really did give my best.  It wasn't until much later after pondering the outcome over and over did I realize.  You don't know
if you can try harder until you are forced to, until you have to.  I thought I was at my best, but my best wasn't the best, and it wasn't enough.  Now my comforters will say, that I did well, I tried hard and I did the best I could.  But if I were to take that and accept that this is the best I will be, this is the best I can do, this is as far as I would ever get.  I could have been better in marketing the event in interacting with the guests, with my online presence etc, somewhere I could have done better.  I truly feel that this experience was never meant for me to win, it was to make me stronger and to show me what desire is, to be so close and not achieve.  It lights a fire that will not soon be put out, success is made of many failures.  My  failures  build the steps that will lead me to my success.

The CHANGE

The rebrand is now complete.  It will undoubtedly take a long time for it to be truly complete and set in peoples minds that sneddon studios is now Rikki Sneddon Art but the logistical work is done.  So what does THE CHANGE mean, new website addresses, new email address, new business cards, labels etc.  It also means, that all print orders sold through my ETSY SHOP ship for $5!  All orders now come with a surprise gift and large orders come gift wrapped!  I think this change really represents me and how much I have changed over the past year.  I am very excited for the upcoming summer and cannot wait to see what opportunities unfold....

New This Week!

Some big changes happening for my shop/brand. After a lot of thought I have decided to rebrand my art business, it will no longer be Sneddon Studios.  SS got me a long way + will always hold a special memory for me, I remember the day 3 years ago when I opened my Etsy shop.  I didn't even have any items to put in it!  However I was determined to make it grow + grow it has.  Considering the variety of art I am now involved in, I am confident that my choice to rebrand under my own name will be the right one.  I am very excited to see where this year will take me + what I will accomplish + create!  I hope that I will be able to bring creations + ideas + dreams that you will treasure.  Here is a recap of some new things from this week :D

1.  Coffee in the studio Friday morning, working on new watercolor prints.  The one pictured is available Here
